The first game involving the Gentleman of East Bergholt was a fixture versus the Gentleman of Ipswich in 1745. In more recent times, the club plays its cricket in the Two Counties Championship (Suffolk and Essex). The first team is in Division One and the second team in Division Five.
Players that have represented East Bergholt include former leading Essex spinner, Ray East; former Essex and England Fast Bowler Neil Foster, whose sons continue to play regularly; Phil Caley, the former record holding Suffolk Captain, who also captained East Bergholt. Opposition players to have stepped out at Gandish Road include the current England Coach Chris Silverwood and one of the England's fastest ever bowlers Ty Mills.
East Bergholt Cricket Club is a community club, the majority of players live in the village or are connected to it. We organise a number events and strive to be a sociable club. The club's cricket festival is very well known and has attracted a number of teams and players to Gandish Road such as the full England Ladies team led by Charlotte Edwards; an ex-England XI including Derek Randall, John Lever, Paul Jarvis, Alan Butcher, Peter Such et al. Other notable attendees include Bredan Cole, Hugh Cornwall, Matt Holland, Alan Brazil, Ronnie Irani, and Henry Blofeld
The club's family ethos is demonstrated through a number of key families such as the Munson's, Taylors, Goodchild's, McGrath's and Foster's who have provided many loyal servants to the club, both as players as well as many roles behind the scenes.

The Two Counties League started with just one division in 1971, the inaugural competition having been won by Browns (now Ipswich CC). A second division was added in 1983 which was won by Dunmow, followed by a third division in 1990 (which was won by Stowmarket). These division had up to 18 teams and league cricket was played on both Saturdays and Sundays. EBCC 's first team joined the league in 1985 with the second team switching from the Lancaster League to the Two Counties Second XI League in 1991
In the year 2000, three divisions were made into seven which included second XIs and less teams in each division. Division 8 was added in 2006 and Division 9 in 2007. In 2008, Divisions 1 -4 were now composed of 12 teams.
East Bergholt were in the 'old' Division 2 in 1990, and in 'old' Division 3 between 1996 and 1999 before dropping into a 'new' Division 4 for two years when the leagues was restructured in 2000. Back-to-back promotions in 2001 and 2002 saw East Bergholt reach the 'new' smaller Division 2 for the 2003 season.
This introduced a new era for the Club as Robbie Gregg was signed from Halstead as Captain adding to the huge talent of Doug Frame who had moved to the village from Western Australia. The next few years saw a flurry of Australian players join the club starting with Ross Scali in 2004 and 2005, Rhys May in 2006, James McAuliffe in 2007 and 2008, Neil Jones in 2009, John Stokavich in 2010, and Drew Cameron in 2011.
Throughout the club's history, the First team have flirted with promotion to Division One whether in the early 90s or mid 'noughties' but promotion was finally achieved to the highest division in 2019. The only hurdle now left is to reach the East Anglian Premier League.
